Simpson signs commitment with CRC
Editor Cody Simpson, a senior at Sloan-Hendrix, has signed his commitment to play baseball at the college level for Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould. Simpson pitched, as well as playing third and first, during his three years playing for the Greyhounds and had a batting average of around .380 his senior year. He also played baseball in summer leagues as he was growing up. Simpson garnered extra notice with a strong end-of-the-season performance, including two home runs in the district tournament. "Cody was especially good at the end of the year," CRC head coach Paul McFadden said. "He had good tournament play." "Having a left-handed batter is always good," McFadden said. "He comes in with some power from the left hand side." McFadden said this is important for his team, which only has one lefty returning from last year. This is a big recruitment year for CRC, which is only returning five players from last year's roster. "We are hoping to recruit 15 to help right out of high school," he said. "Cody is one I think can come in and help us right off in his first year." McFadden said he also knows Simpson though his church, as well, and is happy to be adding him to his team. 'He has good character," the coach said. "He'll fit into the mission of our school." Simpson is the son of Ronald Simpson of Pocahontas and Carla Schaechtel of Ravenden. His brother, Colten Simpson, who is in the 10th grade, and sister, Gennifer, who is an eighth-grader, are active in sports at Sloan-Hendrix, as well.
