WR dominates in second half to post winNathan HibbardStaff Writer A dominating second half lifted the Walnut Ridge Bobcats to a 42-14 victory over the McCrory Jaguars in high school football action Friday night at McCrory. Eric Wilcoxson put the Bobcats on the board first with a six-yard run with 6:05 to play in the first quarter. The Bobcats trailed 14-6 late in the second quarter until Wilcoxson caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Zach Crisler on the final play of the half. Crisler connected with Wilcoxson again on the two-point conversion to send the contest to halftime knotted at 14 apiece. Walnut Ridge rolled up 28 second-half points, while holding the Jaguars scoreless to win the 2A-3 Conference opener. Defense set up the Walnut Ridge's next score, when Cason McQuay recovered a fumble at the Jags' 35-yard line. Tyler Clement capped the drive with an 11-yard run to put the Bobcats back in front. Crisler ran in the conversion to give the Cats a 22-14 lead with 8:21 remaining in the third quarter. Wilcoxson found the end zone again on an 11-yard run late in the period, as Walnut Ridge extended its lead to 28-14. The Bobcats struck again early in the final period when Crisler hit Hunter Flippo with a 35-yard scoring pass. Clement added the two-point conversion to push the Cats' lead to 36-14 with 10 minutes to play. Cole Hicks added the game's final points on a 10-yard run with four minutes remaing. Crisler completed eight-of-12 pass attempts for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Wilcoxson rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Flippo caught five passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Rowdy Ditto led Walnut Ridge with 12 tackles. Wilcoxson recorded 11 tackles, including a sack, and Levi Lewis had 10 tackles. Walnut Ridge improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Bobcats host East Poinsett County on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Sexton Field.
