Hoxie competes in Hornet Classic,
posts wins over Ridgefield and Bay
The Hoxie senior high volleyball team competed in the Hornet Classic at Harrisburg on Saturday.
After splitting their opening match of pool play against Harrisburg 19-25, 25-19, the Lady Mustangs reeled off three consecutive wins, defeating West Memphis 25-16, 25-19, Walnut Ridge 25-23, 25-15, and Cave City 25-12, 25-11. Hoxie closed pool play with a 22-25, 25-23 split with Trumann, to finish first in their pool.
The Lady Mustangs opened bracket play against Trumann, falling to the Lady Wildcats 17-25, 25-16, 17-15 in the best-of-three format.
For the tournament, Sarah Manis was 31-of-33 from the service line, with four aces, 13 digs and 12 kills. Courtney Sears was 26-of-28 serving, with six aces, 33 digs, four blocks and 30 kills. Krista Coffell added nine digs and 32 kills. Maddi Woodard went 41-of-44 from the line, with eight aces, 10 digs, a block and 16 kills.
Maria Fry was 20-of-23 serving, with six aces, 30 digs and 18 kills. Grace Hall was 21-of-24 serving, and had four blocks, three digs and 15 kills. Emily Hatfield had 30 digs. Zoe Willfond was 30-of-32 serving, with three aces, 26 assists and a kill. Chasity Kingland had four digs.
Hoxie's senior high team defeated Ridgefield Christian in straight sets on Thursday at Hoxie. Scores were 25-9, 25-21, 25-17.
Manis went seven-of-seven from the line, with an ace, 15 assists, four digs and five kills. Sears was 11-for-11 serving, with an ace, four digs and nine kills. Woodard was eight-of-nine serving, with an ace, two assists, two digs, a block and three kills. Coffell had two digs and six kills. Fry was nine-of-nine from the line, with four aces, two digs and four kills. Hall added five kills. Zoe Willfond had seven assists and a dig, and Emily Hatfield had four digs.
Hoxie won the junior high match 25-7, 25-11.
Krista VanKirk was eight-of-eight serving, with two aces, eight assists and a kill. Danielle Maronde was 13-of-13 serving, with two aces and a kill. Sequoia Irvin was seven-of-seven from the line and had seven kills. Kelsey Moody had a kill, and Cheyenne Hatfield had two assists. Katelyn Jamison had a kill and four aces, and Brooke
Willfond added an ace and two kills.
The Lady Mustangs defeated Bay 26-24, 25-10, 20-25, 25-16 on Sept. 25 at Bay.
Manis was 18-of-19 from the line, with four aces, 15 assists, three digs and four kills. Sears had an ace, two assists, three digs and 11 kills. Coffell had a dig and eight kills. Woodard had four assists, four digs, a kill and an ace. Fry had 10 digs and 11 kills. Emily Hatfield and an assist and three kills. Zoe Willfond had 10 assists and a kill. Hall had five assists, a dig, four blocks and two kills.
In junior high action, Hoxie came away with the sweep, 25-17, 25-13.
VanKirk was eight-of-10 serving, with five aces, three assists and a kill. Maronde was 11-of-13 from the line, with six aces and a kill. Irvin went seven-of-seven serving, with three aces and two kills. Jamison had a kill. Moody had two aces and three assists. Brooke Willfond had an ace, a dig and a kill.
