Successful WR season
ends in semifinals

Quarterback Shaquille Hunter ran for four touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Junction City Dragons past Walnut Ridge in a semifinal game in the 2A State Football playoffs Friday night at Junction City.

Three of Hunter's scores came in a seven-minute stretch in the second half when the Dragons scored 28 points to break the game open.

The only points of the first half came on Hunter's 28-yard touchdown pass with 6:13 to play in the second quarter to give Junction City a 7-0 lead at the break.

The Dragons added to their lead in the third on Hunter's 35-yard run, which made the score 14-0.

Walnut Ridge got on the scoreboard when Zach Crisler ran for a seven-yard touchdown with 6:14 to play in the third period. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the Dragons' lead at 14-6.

Momentum stayed with Walnut Ridge, when they recovered the ensuing onside kick. The Bobcats drove deep into Junction City territory before turning the ball over on downs.

Junction City put together their own drive that was capped by Hunter's 47-yard burst, which extended the Dragons' lead to 21-6 with 19 seconds to play in the period.

The Dragons pulled away with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Hunter ran for a three-yard score with 8:34 to play. Jaqwis Daney broke loose for a 54-yard touchdown at the 7:32 mark. Hunter finished off his big evening with a 67-yard scamper for Junction City's final touchdown.

Eric Wilcoxson led Walnut Ridge in rushing, with 51 yards on 12 attempts, while Crisler added 42 yards on 14 carries. Crisler completed five-of-16 pass attempts for 40 yards.

Walnut Ridge finished the 2012 season with 10 wins and three losses. The Bobcats made their most successful playoff run in 41 years.
