Hillcrest falls to ICC
Staff Writer The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles hosted Izard County Consolidated in 1A-2 North basketball action on Friday. In the senior boys game, ICC surged to a huge lead in the second and third quarters, then held off a furious Hillcrest rally in the final period to take away a 73-64 victory. The Cougars led 18-13 after one quarter and extended their lead to 38-22 at halftime. ICC led by as many as 27 points, 52-25, before the Eagles began their comeback. Hillcrest was able to get within eight points with three minutes remaining, but couldn't overtake the Cougars in the final minutes. Colman Evans scored 34 points for Hillcrest, including 26 in the second half. Zach Doyle netted 23 points, and Jeremiah Turner grabbed 13 rebounds. ICC topped the Hillcrest junior high boys 42-22.
Lindsey Crews had a big game for Hillcrest, as the Lady Eagles defeated Izard County 64-53. Hillcrest led 12-7 after one quarter, 26-14 at halftime and 42-35 after three periods. Crews finished with 27 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Stacy Maxwell had 21 points and four steals.
