BR falls to Armorel
A late rally by Armorel lifted the Tigers to a 44-38 victory over Black Rock in senior boys basketball action on Friday at Black Rock.
The Zebras raced to a big early lead of 15-3 in the first quarter and continued to lead 22-14 at the end of the first half.
Armorel came on strong in the second half, outscoring the Zebras 14-6 in the third quarter to tie the contest 28-28. The Tigers continued their run in the final period to overtake Black Rock and grab the win.
Derrek Nunally led Black Rock with 14 points, while Matt Wilkins added 12. Ryan Roberts snagged seven rebounds for the Zebras.
Black Rock dropped to 1-7 in 1A-3 East conference play and 4-16 overall.
In senior girls action, Christian Ervin had nine points, as the Lady Zebras fell to Armorel 53-23.
Black Rock's girls traveled to Lake City on Thursday to face the Riverside Lady Rebels in a non-conference matchup.
Riverside downed the Lady Zebras 70-30. Ervin led Black Rock with 13 points.
The Riverside junior girls defeated Black Rock 34-21.
The Black Rock senior boys earned a road victory on Jan. 9 when the Zebras defeated the Southland Rebels 62-40 at Cardwell, Mo.
The Zebras led 16-2 after one quarter, 23-15 at halftime and 38-23 after three quarters.
Wilkins and Caleb McKenzie had 17 points apiece to lead Black Rock.
Black Rock's teams took to the road to face conference foe Weiner on Jan. 8.
In senior boys action, the Cardinals withstood a late Black Rock rally to take a 34-33 win.
McKenzie led all scorers with 14 points.
Weiner's junior boys defeated Black Rock 45-22.
Weiner's Peyton Craft had 30 points and 16 rebounds, as the Lady Cardinals defeated Black Rock 62-26.
Ervin led the Lady Zebras with 14 points.
