WRHS celebrating homecoming

Walnut Ridge High School is celebrating basketball homecoming this week with the sweetheart royalty to be presented Thursday night and the homecoming royalty presentation set for Friday.

Walnut Ridge will face White County Central on Thursday night with junior girls, senior girls and senior boys scheduled to play beginning at 5 p.m. The royalty will be presented between the junior and senior girls games.

Sweetheart king is Eric Wilcoxson, son of Bill and Pam Wilcoxson of Walnut Ridge.

His pages are Allie Bramlett, daughter of Derek and Brooke Bramlett of Walnut Ridge, and Bo Kersey, son of Jacob and Darenda Kersey of Pocahontas.

Knight of honor is Tyler Clement, son of Tim and Sherry Clement of Hoxie, and senior knight is Matthew Cox, son of Blake and Rhonda Cox of Walnut Ridge

Baron Estes, son of Skip Estes of Norman, Okla., and Tracy Estes of Walnut Ridge, is junior knight. Sophomore knight is Lane Kennedy, son of Glenn Kennedy of Powhatan and Lesa Kennedy of Walnut Ridge, and Martin Crisler, son of Wilson Crisler and Michelle Mullen, both of Walnut Ridge, is freshman knight.

On Friday, the junior and senior boys will play Black Rock with the homecoming royalty presented after the junior boys game, which begins at 5 p.m.

Homecoming queen is Nita Bislimi, daughter of Tom and Fadila Bislimi of Norway. She is the host daughter of Earl and Doris Highfield of Powhatan.

Her pages are Karlee Britton, daughter of Chad and Amber Broadway of Walnut Ridge and Logan Morse of Jonesboro, and Jersie Cunningham, son of Jeremy and Stormy Cunningham of Walnut Ridge.

Maid of honor is Ashlyn Cothern, daughter Terry and Dawn Cothern of Walnut Ridge, and Audrey McElrath, daughter of Jeff and Barbie McElrath of Walnut Ridge is senior maid.

Anna Bland, daughter of John and Renee Bland of Walnut Ridge, is junior maid. Sophomore maid is Courtney Cox, daughter of Blake and Rhonda Cox of Walnut Ridge, and Maggie Jackson, daughter of Steve and Paula Jackson of Walnut Ridge, is freshman maid.

Students have been celebrating spirit week marking pajama day on Monday, Duck Dynasty - 'Merica day on Tuesday and tourist day on Wednesday. Thursday is gangsta day at the high school and favorite sports team day at the elementary and middle schools. Friday is orange and white day and students are encouraged to wear their homecoming T-shirt.

This year's theme is "Carnival." Friday morning students will play carnival games as homerooms compete for a pizza party at the end of the year.

A pep rally will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m.

A "decorate the gym" poster contest for elementary, middle and high school is also being held for a chance for each building to win a popcorn party.
