Hoxie beats Rivercrest, Earle

The Hoxie senior boys were in action against three 3A-3 Conference opponents last week. After dropping a game to Piggott on Monday, the Mustangs closed out the week with wins against Earle and Rivercrest.


Hoxie jumped on the Colts early and never looked back en route to a 95-81 victory on Friday. The Mustangs led 25-15 at the end of the first quarter, 49-32 at halftime and 69-57 after three quarters.

Colton Watson scored 23 points, and Jacob Defries added 22 to lead Hoxie. Tristan Privett finished with 18 points, and Noah Adamson had 14.

The Mustangs improved to 6-5 in conference play and 10-9 overall.

Rivercrest won a junior boys game 54-38.


Hoxie outscored Earle 15-8 in the third quarter to break a halftime tie and go on to defeat the Bulldogs 61-53 on Thursday.

Watson had 26 points to lead the Mustangs. Defries and Adamson each had 10 points, and Privett added nine points.

The Earle junior boys defeated Hoxie 59-20.


The Piggott Mohawks rallied from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to hand the Mustangs a 76-67 setback on Monday.

The Mustangs led 39-30 at halftime, 56-45 at the end of the third period and at one point pushed the lead to 14, before the Mohawks started their comeback. Piggott scored a basket in the closing seconds of regulation to tie the contest 64-64, and went on to outscore the Mustangs in the extra period to capture the win.

Watson had 20 points for Hoxie, and Defries had 18. Slade Sullens contributed 10 points for the Mustangs.

Piggott's junior boys defeated Hoxie 54-37.

Senior girls at Rivercrest

Rivercrest's Lady Colts defeated Hoxie 58-31 in senior girls action on Thursday at Wilson.

Hoxie trailed 19-11 after one quarter, 36-16 at halftime and 53-25 at the end of the third quarter.

Brandy Alls scored 11 points for the Lady Mustangs.
