The Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles captured the senior boys title at the 2013 Lawrence County Tournament with a 64-55 victory over the Walnut Ridge Bobcats on Saturday at Hoxie Mustang Gymnasium.
The contest was tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter before Walnut Ridge raced to a 31-21 lead in the second quarter.
Hillcrest controlled the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 16-8 in the third quarter to close the gap to 39-37 heading into the fourth period. The Screamin' Eagles continued their strong play in the final period outscoring Walnut Ridge 27-16 to pull away for the win. Hillcrest knocked down 14-of-17 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter to thwart any hopes of a comeback by the Bobcats.
Colman Evans finished with 18 points, and Zach Doyle had 17 for Hillcrest. Jeremiah Turner chipped in 10 points. Evan Doyle had six points, and Hunter Nunnally added five points. Brandon Scott and Corey Richey each had four points.
Range Weeks led Walnut Ridge with a game-high 21 points. Zach Crisler and Hunter Flippo had 10 points apiece. Payton Poole finished with seven points, and Matt Cox had three points. Eric Wilcoxson and Cole Hicks each had two points.
