Grandparents' Corner
Spencer Haney (from left), five, Everett Stowers, nine months, and Henry Stowers, six, are the grandsons of Harold Lee and Tina Stowers of Hoxie and the great-grandsons of Ann Milligan of Portia and Lelia Stowers of Pocahontas.
Spencer is the son of Dwayne and Haley Haney of Guin, Ala., and Heather Haney of Winfield, Ala. He is also the grandson of Rocky and Sandra Ridings of Hamilton, Ala., and Peggy Benton of Winfield, Ala.
Everett and Henry are the sons of Blair and Jamie Stowers of Walnut Ridge. They are also the grandsons of Jim and Sheila Price of Walnut Ridge and the great-grandsons of Margie Price of Dexter, Mo., and Gertrude "Gertie" Cox of Paragould.

A generation to appreciate

I have heard several people say in recent weeks that "they don't make them like they used to," when referring to our senior generation. It is fairly easy to think of people with strength, grit and resilience from the generation who lived through such events as the Depression and World War II.

Two women who come to my mind have passed away in recent days. Tynse Bassett, who I believe was the ideal mother of three boys and grandmother of two grandsons, is one of them. Another is Orpha Murphy, who, similar to Mrs. Bassett, worked hard, took care of her family and always maintained high moral values.

Others put my mother, Virginia Bland, in that same category of being strong and resilient as she strives to overcome health issues. I would have to agree with them.
