Christian David Nichols

Mark and Stephanie Nichols of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of a son on Jan. 19, 2013, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, 14 ounces, and has been named Christian David Nichols.

He has an older sister, Grace Arabella Nichols, who is two.

Grandparents are Nedra Nichols of Walnut Ridge, David and Mary DeClerk of Pocahontas and the late Charles Nichols.

He is the great-grandson of Mary Wolf of Pocahontas and the great-great-grandson of Stella Blackwell of Walnut Ridge.

Graham Christian Stowers

Chris and Beth Stowers of Clover Bend have announced the birth of a son on Jan. 22, 2013, at St. Bernards Birthcare Center in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed six pounds, five ounces, and has been named Graham Christian Stowers.

Grandparents are Rick and Loretta Stowers of Hoxie and Steve and Denise Graham of Clover Bend.

He is the great-grandson of Lelia Stowers of Pocahontas, Margie Bell of Walnut Ridge, Vada Smith of Jonesboro and Bonnie Graham of Clover Bend. Great-great-grandmother is Ruth Ballard of Walnut Ridge.

Justus Cordell VanBrook

Mark and Paige VanBrook of Walnut Ridge have announced the birth of their second child, a son, born on Jan. 30, 2013, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

The baby weighed 10 pounds, six ounces, and has been named Justus Cordell VanBrook. He has one brother, Matthew, seven.

Grandparents are Brenda Hunt of Walnut Ridge and Mildred Burnes of Sikeston, Mo.

Great-grandparents are O.M. and Sible Burnham of Swifton.

June Ashlock

June Ashlock, 72, of Monette, died Feb. 8, 2013, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born Aug. 17, 1940, in Monette, she lived most of her life in Lawrence County. She had been a nurse at St. Bernards and was a member of First Baptist Church in Black Rock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ashlock; her parents, Curtis and Ellen Green Harrell; and a sister, Shirley Harrell.

Survivors include two sons, Max Ross, Walnut Ridge, and Cole Ashlock and wife Susan, Black Rock; a brother, Bill Harrell and wife Ernestine, Monette; a sister, Diann Senick and husband Louis, Texarkana, Texas; five grandchildren, Leslie Brashears, Tory Ross, Monica Ross, Mason Ashlock and Carly Ashlock; four great-grandchildren; and her caregivers, Jessica Vernon, Karen Taylor, Felicia Foster and Tammy Eldridge.

Graveside service was Tuesday at Macy Cemetery in Monette with William Piercy officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers were Burrel Cude, Jerry Gilliam, Britt Hazelwood, Rosie Hazelwood, Britt Meeks, Lyndell Meeks, Larry Stallings and Jerry Wallis.

Cyral Hugh Chrisman

Cyral Hugh Chrisman, 90, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 7, 2013.

Born Sept. 9, 1922, in Calloway County, Ky., he was the son of Tollie and Eural Crouse Chrisman. He served three years in the military during World War II and was in Europe on V.E. Day. He had previously lived in Royal Oak, Mich., and Rochester, Mich., and was retired from Chrysler Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eva Ruth Esch Chrisman, whom he married Sept. 9, 1944, in Detroit; and a sister, Imogene Etherton.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Chrisman; a son, Robert Chrisman and wife Maryanne, Auburn Hills, Mich.; two daughters, Janet Winship and husband Russ, Des Moines, Iowa, and Joyce Fletcher, Shelby Township, Mich.; three sisters, Larue Mitchell and Hilda Ann Berry, both of Jefferson, Ind., and Julia Robertson and husband David, Summerville, S.C.; two brothers, William Max Chrisman and wife Dorothy, Great Falls, Mont., and Robert Stanley Chrisman and wife Pearl, Rochester, Mich.; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Michele, Cathy and Ted Jr.; five great-grandchildren; and three stepchildren, Stan Debow and wife Krystal, Isaac Debow, and James Debow and wife Linda.

Funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Truxler officiating. Burial with military honors was in Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Isaac Debow, Stanley Debow, Stanley Debow II, Jon Smith, Russ Winship and David Robertson.

Mary Jo Franks

Mary Jo Franks, 52, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 7, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 1, 1961, in Walnut Ridge, she was a receptionist, a homemaker and a member of United Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, John Franks; three daughters, Amy Dickson, and Janet Lady and husband Hank, all of Walnut Ridge, and Kim Morris, Hoxie; two sons, Christopher Franks and wife Katrina, Lakewood, Wash., and Jason Franks, Walnut Ridge; her parents, Jewel and Julia Diane Land Woodson, Hoxie; a sister, Renae Vidal and husband Carlos, Hoxie; a brother, David Woodson and wife Julie, Walnut Ridge; and two grandchildren, Logan Dickson and Marlee Lady.

Funeral was Monday at 2 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Smith officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Mike Woodson, Michael Woodson, Carlos Vidal, Phillip Pickett, Kenny Franks and Dr. Dirk Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Mounts, Hank Lady, Jason Franks, Christopher Franks and Matthew Franks.

Keith Freeman

Leland Keith Freeman, 69, of Portia, died Feb. 7, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1943, in Poughkeepsie, he was the foreman for the Lawrence County Road Department and of the Church of Christ belief.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Opal Bettis Freeman; and a brother.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janice Freeman; a daughter, Leah Morgan and husband Ben, Portia; a brother, Dale Freeman, Powhatan; a sister, Pat Mosier, Jacksonville; and a granddaughter, Carley Morgan.

Funeral was Sunday at 1 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Home with Robert Davis officiating. Burial was in Yadkin Cemetery near Ravenden Springs.

Pallbearers were Alex Latham, Phillip Clinton, Bryan Risner, Albert Yarbro, Allen Brand and Rodney Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Ray Foley, Harold Foley, Joe Penn and the Lawrence County Road Department crew.

Mary Magdalene Gray

Mary Magdalene Gray, 87, of Walnut Ridge, formerly of Sedgwick, died Feb. 4, 2013, at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 20, 1925, at Egypt, she was the daughter of Henry and Cassie Skinner Foster. She was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County and a member of the Cache River Pentecostal Church. She was a homemaker and had worked at General Electric.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Luther E. Gray; three brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter.

Survivors include two sons, James Gray and wife Vanessa, Sedgwick, and Bryan Gray and wife Becky, Ridgeland, Miss.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Rick Hart officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Visitation is Thursday, one hour prior to the service.

Floreine Guthrie

Floreine Guthrie, 90, of Smithville, died Feb. 8, 2013, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

Born Dec. 29, 1922, in Lynn, she was the daughter of John Wesley and Jewel Steadman Spotts. She graduated from Strawberry High School in 1940. She was a supervisor for the Jonathan Logan dress factory and was a member of First Baptist Church in Smithville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dennis E. Guthrie; a brother, Wesley Gene Spotts; and two sisters, Jeraldine Crump and Nadine Guthrie.

Survivors include a son, James Harp and wife Mary, Paragould; a granddaughter, Denice West; and a special friend, Genieve Blanchard, Russellville.

Funeral was Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Smithville Baptist Church with Bro. Jay Wilkens officiating. Burial was in Smithville Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Larry Crump, Gerald Crump, Jackie Mullins, Robbie Mize, Denny Durham and Sloan Durham. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Durham and Jimmy Terry.

Joyce Mae Hudson

Joyce Mae Hudson, 87, of Washington, Mich., formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 8, 2013, at Lake Orion Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Orion, Mich.

Born Aug. 21, 1925, at Alicia, she was the daughter of Henry "Sam" Wood and Ruby Prewitt. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hudson; and two brothers, Howard "Pete" Wood and Jerry "Buck" Wood.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Lee and husband David, Washington, Mich.; a brother, Bill Wood, Harrison; a sister, Roberta Hanshaw, Walnut Ridge; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Donetti and Amy Fici; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and a graveside service will be announced at a later date by House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Michael William Johnson

Michael William Johnson, 25, of Pocahontas, died Feb. 11, 2013, at his home.

Born Aug. 16, 1987, in Jonesboro, he lived most of his life in Pocahontas.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Johnson; a brother, Brandon Dobbs; and his grandparents, J.T. and Carol Johnson.

Survivors include his mother, Rhonda Johnson, Newport; two brothers, Johnathan Dobbs, Newport, and Wesley Johnson, Pocahontas; his grandmother, Vada Patterson, Newport; his grandfather, Tommy Dobbs, Batesville; six aunts, Sheryl Blackwell and Darlene McQuay, both of Pocahontas, Amy Dail, Walnut Ridge, Donna Dalton, Swifton, Evelyn Harmon, Newport, and Tina Vanwinkle, Diaz; and an uncle, Bryan Johnson, Walnut Ridge.

Visitation is Friday from 2-3 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home. Private burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Lillis Eva Jane King

Lillis Eva Jane King, 89, of Hardy and Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 8, 2013, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 7, 1924, at Leachville, she was the daughter of Lonnie "Curly" and Ruby Lyttaker Grooms. She was a beautician and a nurse's aid at Randolph Home in Pocahontas for many years. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Williford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse King.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Harguess and husband Lester, Walnut Ridge, Judy Hunt and husband David, Westville, Ind., and Patsy Warnke and husband Larry, Hardy; a brother, Willard Grooms, Shawnee, Kan.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church at a later date. Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland has charge of arrangements.

Paul Latham

Paul Latham, 61, of Jonesboro, died Feb. 11, 2013.

He had lived in Jonesboro since moving from Portia in 1985 and was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church. He was retired from Lincoln Manufacturing, where he was a shop steward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Gladys Latham; two sisters, Deborah Latham and Helen Frances Glasgow; and three infant brothers.

Survivors include a sister, Peggy Paden, Jonesboro; and four brothers, Joseph F. Latham, Imboden, Alex Latham and Herman A. Latham, both of Portia, and Johnny Mac Latham, Beech Grove.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home with Jerry Parker officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Clearview Cemetery near Pocahontas.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Singles Sunday school class of Walnut Street Baptist Church.

Visitation is Thursday, from 9-10 a.m.

Bill McNamee, 57, of Batesville, Miss., brother of Judy Belcher of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 4, 2013, at his home. Letha Miller

Letha Miller, 98, of Black Rock died Feb. 11, 2013, at her home.

Born June 2, 1914, in Walnut Ridge, she was the daughter of William and Emmer Cunningham Stayton. She was a longtime resident of Greene County, a homemaker and a member of Light Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Roscoe Miller; an infant son and daughter; two brothers, Lee Stayton and Wyatt Stayton; and a sister, Jessie Mable Armstrong.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Kemp, Black Rock; four grandchildren, Gary Liles, Kelley Pruett, Jammie Houston and Janice Parsons; 10 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandchild.

Funeral is Friday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Walker officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Walcott.

Pallbearers will be Zach Long, Michael Parsons, Brian Parsons, Wink Hackworth Sr., Jeff Liles and Wink Hackworth Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad VanZant, Andy Liles and James Houston.

James Marion Morris

James Marion Morris, 81, of Wayne, Mich., died Feb. 7, 2013, at his home.

Born Nov. 27, 1931, in Walnut Ridge, he was the son of Jasper Luther and Nola Dovie Owens Morris. He lived in Sedgwick before moving to Michigan in 1952. He worked at Ford for 44 years and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eudora "Dodie" Owens Morris in 2009; a son, Michael Morris; and 11 siblings, Faye, John Foe, Margie Marie, Wanda Lee, Paul, Pauline, Ernest Orgel, David Vance, Marvelle, Larry and Olilou "Siss."

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Crumley and husband Bob, Wayne, Mich.; two sons, Charles Morris, Sedgwick, and Stephen Morris and wife Christina, Gaines, Mich.; a brother, Larry Morris, Sedgwick; seven grandchildren, Jamie Morris Carlson, Stacy Britt Wisner, Charles Eric Morris, Mike Crumley, Stephen Morris, Matthew Morris and Alison Morris; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral is today at 11:30 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Dennis Truxler officiating. Burial will be in Old Military Cemetery near Sedgwick.

Jeweldine Frakes Morris

Jeweldine Frakes Morris, 83, of Walnut Ridge, died Feb. 9, 2013, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Born Nov. 4, 1929, in Alicia, she was the daughter of Samuel Red and Beulah Polston Frakes. She lived in Lawrence County most of her life. She was a homemaker and and a cook for the Davy Crockett Restaurant in Walnut Ridge and the 76 Truck Stop. She was a member of the Hoxie Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. "Bud" Morris, in 2002; two brothers, Roy Frakes and Liburn Leon Frakes; and a sister, Syble Sherrod.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Morris and wife Libbey, West Memphis; two brothers, John Frakes and wife Mozel, Walnut Ridge, and Terry Frakes and wife Mary, Pocahontas; two sisters, Willene Pilkinton and husband Charles, Pocahontas, and Alline Brown and husband L.D., Imboden; six grandchildren, Brandon Morris, Katie Morris, Justin Bass, Heather Macom, Max Morris and Haley Hickey; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is today from 2-3 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

Larry Webb

Larry Webb, 68, of Ravenden Springs, died Feb. 8, 2013.

Born April 26, 1944, he was the son of the late James and Stellia Webb.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Laverda Fultner; and his grandparents, Jimmy and Dela Prince.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Webb; five sons, Eddie Webb and Tony Webb, both of Ravenden Springs, Donald Webb and Keith Webb, both of Pocahontas, and Gary Webb, Black Rock; a daughter, Sheila Jackson, Ravenden Springs; a stepdaughter, Dianne Simmons, Walnut Ridge; three sisters, Sue Nelson, Neatress Fultner and Brenda Lamb; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Tuesday at noon at the Ravenden Springs First Baptist Church. Burial was in Manning Cemetery at Hoxie under the direction of Taylor-Cox Funeral Home of Pocahontas.
