The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats won the championship of the 2013 Lawrence County Softball Tournament on Saturday. Walnut Ridge defeated Hillcrest 15-5 in the semifinals and Sloan-Hendrix 11-2 in the finals. The Sloan-Hendrix Lady Greyhounds placed second in the 2013 Lawrence County Softball Tournament on Saturday. The Lady Greyhounds defeated Hoxie 9-7 in the semifinals before losing to Walnut Ridge 11-2 in the finals. Lady Cats claim county title
Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats captured the championship of the 2013 Lawrence County Softball Tournament on Saturday at Stewart Park. The Lady Cats defeated Sloan-Hendrix 11-2 in the title game.
Ranie Robinett pitched all seven innings for Walnut Ridge, allowing two runs on three hits, while recording eight strikeouts.
Offensively, Baylee Bridges went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Hannah Massey, Maggie Jackson and Chloe Rice each had one hit and scored two runs. Makayla Daniels and Sunnie Cunningham each had a hit and scored a run.
Ashlyn Cothern had a hit, and Whitney Rider scored a run.
WR - Hillcrest
The Lady Bobcats defeated the Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles 15-5 in a semifinal contest.
Rider batted 2-for-4 and scored two runs, while Jackson went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Cothern, Robinett and Baylee Bridges had one hit apiece. Massey and Sabrina Knight each scored three runs, while Cothern and Daniels each crossed the plate twice. Robinett, Jackson and Baylee Bridges each scored one run.
Massey pitched a complete game and allowed seven hits with three strikeouts.
S-H - Hoxie
A five-run sixth inning lifted Sloan-Hendrix to a 9-7 victory over Hoxie's Lady Mustangs in semifinal action.
Hoxie broke on top with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Greyhounds battled back with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
The score remained 3-2 until Hoxie plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Sloan-Hendrix answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 4-4.
The Lady Mustangs added two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth and held a 7-4 advantage until the Lady Greyhounds struck for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Courtney Sears led Hoxie at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and scoring two runs. Emma Slusser and Sierra Morris each went 2-for-4 and scored one run apiece.
Sears was in the circle for Hoxie and allowed 10 hits and recorded two strikeouts.
Hillcrest - BR
Hillcrest and Black Rock opened the softball tournament with a high-scoring contest that saw the Lady Eagles come away with a 16-15 victory and earn a spot in the semifinals.
