WR mayor tells plans
for new McDonald's
The McDonald's Corporation has informed the city of Walnut Ridge that they plan to build a 5,100 square foot restaurant at 511 Northwest Fourth Street (Hwy. 67B) in Walnut Ridge. Demolition of the former McEntire Auto Sales building began last week in preparation for construction.
All building permits have been purchased, according to Mayor Don House, and he foresees no obstacles for progress on the construction.
"The franchise will make an announcement at a later date with more details, but we have been informed construction will begin right away and should be complete in early fall."
"A McDonald's official informed our office some months back that this is the largest restaurant that the corporation builds," House said. "Only a few restaurants this size have been built by the corporation in the region in recent years."
Seating capacity for the new location will be 138, seating 90 more customers than the current restaurant, also located on Hwy. 67B, House said. Plans call for the new site to have two drive-through windows.
"We are grateful that McDonald's has chosen to relocate their new restaurant on Hwy. 67B. They are an important partner in our city, providing a popular food service, along with jobs and tax revenue," said House. "We are thrilled to have this business continue its presence inside our city proper."
Some members of the Snapp family were owners of the property. McEntire Auto Sales has relocated to just north of their previous location, House added.
