Alderman Adam Pratt submitted his resignation to the Hoxie City Council after moving out of his ward. The council went into an executive session during its Oct. 8 meeting to discuss candidates to finish Pratt's term.

The council then elected Rick Mayland as alderman for Ward 3. "I appreciate you. I'll try to do the best job I can," Mayland said after taking his seat with the rest of the council.

Also at the meeting, Mayor Lanny Tinker said that a court order requesting an inventory list of equipment at Wayne's Grocery has been issued and owner Wayne Black has complied with it.

An inventory list has been made with Alderman Sherry Moore's and Pratt's assistance. Moore said that everything is accounted for.

The store recently closed and has a reuse loan with the city. Black is current on his payments to the city.

Also at the meeting:

  • the council passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Tinker to apply for a GIF community enhancement grant on behalf of the Hoxie Service Center. The funds, if awarded, will be used to renovate the Service Center building.

  • Mayor Tinker announced changes to Hoxie's cleanup policy. All materials for fall cleanup must be placed street side by Sunday. No materials should be placed after Sunday. Pick up will be from Oct. 21 through Nov. 1 and each residence will be visited only once. After Oct. 21 the city will implement higher code enforcement for garbage disposal in compliance with Ordinance 2007-11. Violators of city policy will be given a 10-day period to correct violations or be cited to court. More information can be found in the October 2013 Mayor's Report.

  • Hoxie will open bids for the sewer pump replacement loan on Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. in the city hall conference room. According to Wayne Menley of Miller-Newell Engineers Inc., contractors should be installing the pumps by late November. The majority of old water meters are estimated to be replaced by spring of 2014.
