Junior Lady Cats remain undefeated
The Walnut Ridge junior Lady Bobcats moved closer to completing an undefeated conference season after defeating Piggott 25-12, 25-21 on Thursday at Sharum Gymnasium. The victory left the Jr. Lady Bobcats at 11-0 in the 3A-Northeast standings and 18-3 overall. They were scheduled to close out the conference regular season against Cedar Ridge on Tuesday at Newark.
Walnut Ridge also defeated Piggott in a junior B match, 25-11, and a seventh-grade match 25-14.
In senior high action, the Lady Mohawks defeated Walnut Ridge in four sets, 25-22, 18-25, 25-13, 25-18.
For Walnut Ridge, Anna Bland was 20-of-20 serving, and Sabrina Knight had 24 assists. Caroline Kelley had 19 kills, and Hannah Massey had 29 digs.
Piggott won a senior B match 25-23.
The junior Lady Cats were extended to three sets, but came away with a victory over Annie Camp on Oct. 8 at Jonesboro.
Walnut Ridge won the first set 25-111, dropped the second 19-25 and won the tiebreaker 15-7.
For the Lady Bobcats, Baylee Burris went 15-of-15 from the service line, with four aces, and had six kills. Cirstin Lee had 14 digs, and Brianna Nunley was 17-of-17 serving, with four aces.
Walnut Ridge won a junior B match 25-13, 25-21. Annie Camp won a seventh-grade match 25-18.
The Walnut Ridge junior high volleyball team finished as runners-up in the Silver bracket at the Brookland Junior Invitational Tournament on Oct. 4-5.
Lane Robertson, Burris and Lee were named to the All-Tournament team.
