Sloan is new county attorney

Clay Sloan

Walnut Ridge attorney Clay Sloan has been named as Lawrence County attorney, according to County Judge John Thomison.

Former County Attorney Dick Jarboe passed away on April 1, creating a vacancy in the position.

Thomison said when the first legal question came up after the loss of Jarboe, Sloan was immediately who he thought to ask for advice, and therefore, who he chose to fill the position.

"It was obvious to me that he would be a good choice," Thomison said. "He is imminently qualified and very involved in our community."

Having someone local with knowledge of the county is a huge asset, according to the judge

"He is a good fit," Thomison said. "Everybody's really comfortable."

Sloan said he was delighted that the offer was made to him.

"I look forward to working with the county judge and other county officials," he said. "I will do my best to serve the county."

Sloan will continue his private legal practice, in addition to his new role.
