Filings net one school board race
The one-week filing period for school board positions ended Tuesday at noon with only one race in the county.
Ronald Ingram, incumbent, and Doyne Davis, both of Walnut Ridge, will be in a race for a five-year position on the Lawrence County School District's board.
The unopposed candidates are as follows:
David Scott Durham of Smithville filed for re-election to a five-year term on the Hillcrest School Board, zone five.
David F. Dobbs of Hoxie filed for re-election to a five-year term on the Hoxie School Board. Gregory Coats of Hoxie has filed for the position previously held by the late Danny Kopp, whose term has three years remaining.
Preston Clark of Imboden filed for re-election to a five-year term on the Sloan-Hendrix School Board.
The annual School Election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Because the candidates for the board positions for the Hillcrest, Hoxie and Sloan-Hendrix school districts are unopposed, those districts have the option of conducting their elections solely through absentee and early voting.
The Lawrence County Election Commission has announced plans to conduct a drawing for ballot positions in the Lawrence County School District board race.
The drawing will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Lawrence County Clerk's office at the courthouse. The public and candidates are welcome to attend.
