Lady Mustangs beat WR

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs raced out to a 29-3 lead in the first quarter and went on to defeat the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats 88-35 in senior girls basketball on Nov. 28 at Walnut Ridge.

The Lady Mustangs continued to pull away throughout the game, leading 56-14 at the intermission and 70-25 after three quarters.

Emily Davis led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 21 points. Sydney Gillham had 17 points, and Tessa Glenn finished with 13. Ellie Britt had nine points, and Kaitlin Henson added seven. Sarah Riggs chipped in six points, and Kelsey Moody had two points.

WR earns win over Hoxie

Cross-town rivals Walnut Ridge and Hoxie met for the first time this season on the basketball court on Nov. 27 at Walnut Ridge's Sharum Gymnasium.

The senior boys game saw Walnut Ridge jump out to a 17-9 first-quarter lead. The Bobcats stretched the lead to 27-14 at halftime and 37-20 after three quarters en route to a 55-28 victory.

Brighton Brand had 10 points to lead Walnut Ridge, while Drew Flippo and Andrew Coker each added nine points.

Hillcrest sweeps Ridgefield Christian

Hillcrest swept three games from Ridgefield Christian in an evening of high school basketball action Friday at Lynn.

The Hillcrest senior boys defeated Ridgefield 68-60 as Caleb James turned in 25 points and five assists for the Screamin' Eagles.

The contest was tight early, with Hillcrest leading 14-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles opened up a 12-point advantage, 33-21, in the second period and stretched the lead to 56-34 after three quarters. Hillcrest held off a Ridgecrest rally in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

Colton Rose added 17 points, and Nick Powell had 12 for Hillcrest.

Tuckerman, Bay earn WBC titles

The WBC High School Basketball Tournament concluded Friday night with the Bay girls and Tuckerman boys earning titles. Each championship game was decided by two points, with the girls game going into overtime.

Bay - Pocahontas girls

The Bay Lady Yellowjackets defeated the defending champion Pocahontas Lady Redskins 52-50 in overtime to win the title.

Pocahontas's Rylie Mangold hit at three-pointer at the end of regulation to send the contest into overtime tied at 43-43. Bay outscored the Lady Skins 9-7 in the extra period to take the win

Mustangs fall to Melbourne

The Melbourne Bearkatz started fast and never looked back in defeating the Hoxie Mustangs 67-32 in senior boys basketball Friday night at Melbourne.

Melbourne led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter, 39-15 at halftime and 57-25 after three quarters.

Tracer Keeling led the Mustangs with 10 points, followed by Braden Brand with nine. Riley Felton and Eli Richardson had four points apiece. Colton Vassar had three points, and Devan Dunning and Gabe Baiza each had one point.
